Good news: a North Carolina-based grandfather from Hendersonville has just won six figures from the state’s lottery. Identified as Johnnie Biddix Jr., the man scooped $436,796 from the Cash 5 lottery game from the North Carolina Education Lottery. Grandfather Will Use Money to Take Grandsons on Cruise Vacation Biddix Jr. stopped by a Triangle Stop Food Store on Upward Road in Flat Rock and decided to buy the ticket, matching all five white balls and defying odds of one in 962,598, securing the win. His prize, after federal and state tax withholdings, amounts to $314,537, not a bad haul from a quick lottery play all the same. He is now planning to take his twin grandsons on a cruise vacation, the North Carolina Education Lottery confirmed. Biddix Jr. is not the only North Carolina lottery player to have something good to share, though. In August, two lottery players managed to win $1 million each, playing the $10 Triple Red 777 Jackpot game and the $10 Jumbo Bucks game, respectively. Big wins have been a frequent sight in North Carolina, with players managing to defy some pretty long odds and win six- and seven-figure prizes. Despite the rather heavy state and tax take, the end prizes are life-changing all the same. In June, a woman in North Carolina was able to turn her $20 scratch ticket for Ruby Red 7’s into a $100,000 payout.
