Grand Korea Leisure Co Ltd (GKL), an operator in South Korea of foreigner-only casinos, saw its August casino sales register both a sequential and year-on-year decline, according to a filing it lodged with the Korea Exchange on Thursday. The casino operator’s August casino sales reached nearly KRW31.11 billion (US$22.91 million), down 11.3 percent year-on-year, and also down 25.4 percent month-on-month. The firm’s August table-game sales were approximately KRW27.81 billion, down 10.8 percent year-on-year. Judged sequentially, the August tally’s decline was 26.9 percent. Machine-game sales last month were KRW3.30 billion, a fall of 15.4 percent year-on-year, and down 9.8 percent from July. Grand Korea Leisure runs three foreigner-only, Seven Luck-branded, casinos. Two are in the capital Seoul, one of the venues being Seoul Dragon City in Yongsan. Its third is in the southeastern port city of Busan. The group is a subsidiary of the Korea Tourism Organization, which in turn is affiliated to South Korea’s Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. Grand Korea Leisure’s two Seoul gaming venues – one in Gangnam and another in Yongsan – each recorded year-on-year and sequential decline in August casino sales, according to the casino operator’s supplementary business data published on Thursday as reviewed by GGRAsia. Its Seoul Dragon City casino in Yongsan generated KRW12.85 billion in casino sales in August, down nearly 10.0 percent year-on-year, and also down 2.0 percent from July. Casino sales at the Seoul Gangnam casino reached nearly KRW12.41 billion in August, down 13.3 percent year-on-year, and dipping 43.1 percent sequentially. Grand Korea Leisure’s latest results took its group-wide aggregate casino sales for the first eight months of 2026 to nearly KRW299.97 billion, a 5.6-percent improvement from the prior-year period. Group-wide casino drop – the amount paid by customers to purchase gaming chips – amounted to nearly KRW341.40 billion in August, up 7.2 percent year-on-year, and rising 5.0 percent from July. The August tally took Grand Korea Leisure’s aggregate casino drop of the first eight months of this year to KRW2.65 trillion, up 10.5 percent year-on-year.
