Members of the GGRAsia team have again contributed to Macao Polytechnic University’s (MPU) “Gaming And Recreation Management Seminars”, an initiative for year-four bachelor-degree students majoring in Gaming and Recreation Management. The seminars were delivered on Friday by Michael Grimes (pictured), a principal at GGRAsia, with extensive research support from Stephanie Lai, GGRAsia senior editor It was the third successive year that GGRAsia had been invited to participate in the lecture series. The audience for Friday’s sessions included students already working professionally at Macau integrated resorts (IRs). The morning and evening lecture editions, held at MPU’s Taipa campus, paid particular attention to Japan and the United Arab Emirates as emerging IR markets in the wider region. Other topics covered included the outlook for land-based casino gaming among younger generations of consumers used to accessing entertainment via mobile digital devices. The seminars also examined the Philippines as a case study, as it is one of the few Asia-Pacific jurisdictions to allow app-based domestic online casino gambling. The lecture addressed Philippine domestic-facing online gambling delivered via gaming studio-based live-casino products offered under the licences held by the country’s large-scale casino resorts. The MPU students’ domestic market was covered via topics including the evolution of casino side bets in Macau. GGRAsia was invited to the university through Ryan Ho Hong Wai, lecturer and programme coordinator at MPU’s Centre for Gaming and Tourism Studies. He said: “The talks offered a thought-provoking and timely perspective, and students benefitted greatly from the insights, particularly the exploration of regional dynamics and emerging directions in the industry.” According to MPU, its Gaming And Recreation Management Seminars aim to “enhance students’ understanding of related theories and management issues in order to develop practical skills at work”. Invited speakers include local and overseas experts and scholars.
