Flutter Entertainment has announced the appointment of Edward Traynor, who will become the group’s interim chief legal officer following the retirement of Don Liu from the position. Liu submitted his retirement on September 28, 2026, and stepped down from the company on September 30. He was working as an interim group chief legal officer since April 2025, when he came out of retirement to help steer the business while a replacement could be found. Traynor is the person to succeed him in the new position, although he too will work as interim chief legal officer, and won’t be a permanent hire. Commenting on his stepping down from the position, Liu had this to say on LinkedIn, a social media used by business types: “Initially sold to me as a three-month summer gig in London as Flutter’s interim group CLO, the opportunity to try something completely different at the world’s leading online gaming company was too irresistible. Of course, I wound up working there for almost 18 months. It was a wonderful detour from my retirement. In my second attempt at retirement, I feel more confident and clear about how to make it more enjoyable, more meaningful, and more relaxing.” Traynor has been fulfilling his obligations as interim group chief legal officer since October 1, stepping into the position immediately after Liu’s withdrawal from the post. Traynor has solid experience under his belt, working with the likes of Target, Vodafone, Xerox, and other conglomerates. The appointment comes at an interesting time for Flutter Entertainment and the global gambling industry, as it faces the fallout of Brazil’s suddenly dismantled regulated market. The group has been forced to revise its expectations for the year, following President Lula da Silva’s decision to shutter the gambling industry overnight.
