Ex-Venetian Macao exec Ed Sanderson hired as Marina Bay Sands arena VP

Ed Sanderson has been appointed vice president, arena, at Singapore casino complex Marina Bay Sands (MBS), according to a social media posting. “I am happy to share that I have started my new position as vice president, arena, at Marina Bay Sands,” Mr Sanderson (pictured) wrote. A 15,000-seat arena will be part of the podium in a US$8-billion expansion project at the property, which is promoted by Las Vegas Sands Corp. The latter is also parent of Macau casino operator Sands China Ltd. The expansion, known as ‘MBS 2.0’, has an estimated opening date for January 2031, subject to government approval. That is according to a presentation issued at the time of Las Vegas Sands’ second-quarter earnings statement on July 22. Las Vegas Sands broke ground on MBS 2.0 in July 2026. The added facilities will also include approximately 200,000 square feet (18,580 sq. metres) of meeting space, a 570-suite hotel tower, shops, and additional gaming space, as well as spa and other amenities. According to Mr Sanderson’s update, he worked at The Venetian Macao from June 2007 – the year Sands China’s flagship Macau property launched on Cotai – up to July 2013, as a senior manager with responsibility for the resort’s arena. While at The Venetian Macao, Mr Sanderson said he was involved in “the design, construction and led the team delivering operational rollout” of the 15,000-seat Cotai Arena. That facility has since been revamped and rebranded as The Venetian Arena.
