The companies said the initial rollout will feature 20 contracts with plans to add another 25 “each quarter as the Crypto.com and PYMNTS partnership expands to measure new technologies, industries and business applications of artificial intelligence.” The intent behind the derivatives is to provide companies and traders, including professionals, with fresh tools for capitalizing on AI adoption trends. “Rather than relying on indirect indicators such as semiconductor demand, cloud infrastructure spending or technology company earnings to gauge AI’s progress, the PYMNTS proprietary system measures AI adoption directly through continuously refreshed primary research,” according to a statement. “Those independently measured signals become the foundation for tradable contracts that allow market participants to express informed views on how AI adoption is evolving across industries and across the broader economy.” The contracts will settle against an “independently measured changes in AI adoption” using rules-based metrics. Crypto.com, PYMNTS Breaking New Ground Crypto.com is one of the pioneers in the domestic prediction market industry. It broke into the space in late 2024 with a push focusing on that year’s NFL playoffs and the Super Bowl. With the PYMNTS Intelligence partnership, the cryptocurrency broker is extending its non-sports offerings and its efforts to woo more professional market participants – an audience that’s increasingly desired in the prediction market community. The timing of the new event contracts could prove to be fruitful because AI adoption and deployment is expanding at breakneck speed, but to date, professional traders and investors have had limited tools for expressing views on those trends. Mainly, those options have boiled down to stakes in technology companies or related funds. Crypto.com and PYMNTS are offering a novel approach, one that’s supported by regularly updated data. “Fresh consumer, enterprise and corporate measurements are collected every month and quarter, continuously refreshing the market, ensuring every settlement reflects current changes in AI adoption rather than historical averages or one-time events,” add the companies. How the Event Contracts Will Work For prospective traders, understanding how the AI-based event contracts will function is essential, though not cumbersome. The Crypto.com/PYMNTS derivatives will be underpinned by three measurement sources: consumer behavior, corporate deployment and company and broader market disclosures. The consumer behavior measurements will be refreshed monthly while the other two metrics will be updated quarterly. The enterprise deployment category could be particularly appealing for traders that have traditional bets on AI-focused companies. “It measures how organizations deploy AI, including production agents, workflow automation, realized productivity gains, software replacement and business outcomes through a nationally representative study of 500 U.S. enterprises and the executives responsible for AI strategy and investment,” according to the press release.
