Carrot Top, the Las Vegas comedian known on his drivers license as 61-year-old Scott Thompson, was rushed to a hospital on Friday (Sept. 18) after what TMZ, citing sources familiar with the situation, reported as a suicide attempt. The jester has held court at the Luxor for more than 20 years. (Image: David Becker/Getty) His publicist, Jami Schlicher, confirmed only that he is recovering and receiving care. She asked for privacy on behalf of his family and close friends and did not address the reported cause. MGM Resorts referred questions to that statement. Carrot Top’s Friday and Saturday (Sept. 29) shows at Luxor’s Atrium Showroom were canceled. The residency is dark on Sundays. Thompson was seen about 2 p.m. Friday at Finney’s Crafthouse in Downtown Summerlin with two companions. He has headlined the Atrium Showroom since November 2005, one of the Strip’s longest-running comedy residencies. His show mixes prop comedy, physical bits, custom stage pieces, and topical material and has been extended in later contract deals. The Luxor has not announced a return date, though as of Friday night, Monday’s 8 p.m. performance was still listed on sale. This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
